FAQs

The Frequently-Asked Getting Fab In Fitness Questions

What do I wear to my workout session?

You can wear anything you want to training! We are NOT a fancy gym and our purpose is to get you in shape. We work hard so you want to be comfortable in the clothing that you wear. We highly recommend that you get new, “good” running shoes for your training as they will help you perform better and they will help prevent injuries from occurring.

Are the workouts hard?

We, as your trainers, have your best interest at heart. We are here to get you in shape and we strive to make every workout as fun as possible. With that said, training is not always fun and it requires hard work, discipline and perseverance. All you have to do is show up and we take care of the rest.

Will I see weight results immediately?

We cannot guarantee results because you get out what you put in. Your diet will greatly influence your results so if you are eating a well balanced diet that is low in bad fats, high in fibre, protein and veggies you will succeed. Our workouts are designed for you to burn a lot of calories and keep burning all day long.

Do we do the same workouts every week?

We do a lot of different things at Durham Fitness Training and each workout is completely different. You will not repeat a workout during the 4 week program and each 4 week program is completely different.  We even throw in some fun, fitness games too!

What if my fitness level is not the same as someone else’s in a group?

We train every fitness level in every workout! We are very good at what we do and we know how to train each member individually although you are being trained in the group setting. It is important that we know you and your goals. We love helping everyone reach their objectives!

Are your programs targeted for women only?

There is no such thing as “spot reduction” or women’s only exercise! If someone promises that you will lose your “muffin top” or “love handles” , they are lying to you. If someone says that women should not do pushups or squats, that is also a falicy. Women and men can do the same exercises in fact many women can do more pushups with great form than a lot of men that we know!  Our classes are unisex and we encourage both men and women to join and help each other reach their goals.

Could I get hurt at one of your classes?

We know how to train you and we would never have you do anything that could hurt you! We are all highly educated on how to execute perfect form so you will not get injured during your workout – although you might be sore the next day.  DOMS (Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness) is a reason that many people discontinue training. We promise that if you keep coming, even though you are sore, it will go away.  Typically after one week of training or the third workout is when the pain lessens greatly. You will start to feel a nice tightness in your muscles and that is good!

Will I bulk up with the weight training?

You cannot bulk up when you train with us. There is a big misconception when it comes to weight training and bulking. I ( Natalie), personally, have tried to gain a lot if muscle and the only way I could do so was to lift very heavy weights and double my calories! Heavy weights will never be used in our programs as we do not have the means or access to them. Heavy to me equals 50 plus pounds of weights and lower repetitions performed. You will train with lighter weights and do higher reps so you never have to worry about gaining size – only losing it!

When should I eat before class?

You should not eat close to your training time, although you should have a small snack about an hour before to give you the energy to train hard. We recommend ONE of the following options, as all of these are easy to digest and will help give good energy that you require for the workouts:

  • 1/2 banana and a few almonds
  • A piece or toast with peanut butter
  • A protein shake with banana
  • 1/2 cup oatmeal with some almond milk
